University of Waikato

Nestled in the heart of the North Island, 90 minutes south of Auckland, Hamilton is home to the prestigious University of Waikato – leaders in academic and sporting achievement.

Our Hamilton campus is spread over 65 hectares of beautiful park-like grounds. Students enjoy the relaxed, quiet atmosphere of the campus and enjoy being close to so many of New Zealand’s adventure attractions.

At the University of Waikato, students receive a world-class education. Our graduates go on to do great things, securing excellent jobs around the world from Wall Street to Silicon Valley.

The UK-based Times Higher Education rankings place Waikato in the top 2% of universities around the world and 46th for universities less than 50 years old.

Recently, the University of Waikato was ranked in the top 100 subjects worldwide for Law and Education, and ranked in the top 200 for Computer Science, Economics and Econometrics, History and Geography by British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

At the University of Waikato, we have a strong commitment to academic excellence and high performance. We are partners in the Home of Cycling Charitable Trust for the National Cycling Centre of Excellence (Avantidrome) complex which is currently being built in nearby Cambridge – also home to Rowing New Zealand.

We also offer the prestigious Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship programme, a full-fee paying scholarship for sporting and arts students who are academically excellent and have leadership qualities. The programme carries Sir Edmund Hillary’s name and reflects the values that took the New Zealander to the top of Mt Everest 60 years ago this year.
